Group therapy is one of the most effective ways to decrease people's experiences of loneliness and isolation and to improve interpersonal skills.
While in group therapy, members talk about current and past events in their lives, decisions they are trying to make, issues they are struggling with, and their feelings and reactions to other group members. While the idea of sharing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with others can be intimidating, member choose the pace at which they share with each other. As the leader, I am also helping members through this process.
There are several factors that make group therapy so effective. When members share an experience and/or feelings in group and find that other members have had similar experiences, this helps members feel less alone. Having a shared experience with others also helps members feel validated in their reactions and increases self-esteem. Group also allows members to learn about the ways in which they interact with people. Members are able to explore new behavior patterns. Through the process of group, members also gain better understanding of how childhood experiences impacted them. This provides members an opportunity to heal from past experiences and to have new, positive experiences of connection and growth. The self-confidence built in group and the improved interpersonal skills that members take from group allows members to improve their daily lives and relationships.
If you are interested in learning more about how group might help you, I welcome hearing from you.
Curently, I am accepting new members to both of my groups.

WOMENS EATING DISORDER GROUP
This group is perfect for any woman who has ever suffered about her relationship with food, feels like she eats too much or too little, or feels like her self-worth is determined by the number on her scale. Essentially, this is a great group for all women to learn more about themselves and to connect to others interested in self-growth and exploration. We meet on Sundays from 4-5:30 p.m.
